| If you are 18 years of age or older, a permanent resident, in Canada legally
as a permanent resident, lived in Canada for at least three years and you can
communicate with people in either English or French and are willing to learn
about Canada then you can apply to become a Canadian
citizen. If you are the parent of a child under 18 years of age, you may apply
for your child’s citizenship as soon as the child receives permanent resident
status. It is not necessary for children to have lived in Canada for three years to become
citizens. To apply for your child, you must already be a Canadian citizen
yourself or you must be applying to become a citizen at the same time. A number of factors prohibit you from becoming a Canadian citizen, such as
prison records, or previously-revoked Canadian citizenship. For more

Six Steps to become a Canadian Citizen
- Make sure you have the right application form.
- Read the guides before you
fill out the forms. Application form
questions must be answered truthfully. (Citizenship Act).
- Complete the application form/s and attach the necessary documents
including "citizenship photos" and receipt of payment (form IMM 5401)

The fee for adults is $200. For children under 18, it is $100.

Mail the form and documents to the Case Processing Centre.
- Get ready for the test.
